“The Premiere”
A Work in Progress made its grand debut at the Paradise Theater in the heart of downtown Toronto. It played as part of a double bill, showing right before Dead Butterflies: Between Friends. The event far exceeded expectations and ended up raising $1,250 for Youth Without Shelter, a Toronto based emergency shelter for at risk youth.
I won’t lie to you, A Work in Progress was completed well before it premiered on June 30th 2022. What took me so long to release it? Why didn’t I just post it online right away? If I’m being honest, well it’s because I couldn’t. I could have, but decided not to. Just releasing it online, it felt like a cop-out — I wanted to do something that was true to the themes of the project and to the people who opened themselves up. Seeing that I had already begun planning a premiere for my short-film, Between Friends, I figured why not do a double bill where all proceeds go to charity?
